Playa Carrillo

Playa Carrillo offers a quaint and friendly community
surrounded by dramatic landscapes, sculpted from
green mountains, dense forest and a sprawling
luxurious palm-lined beach. It is inhabited with
inviting local businesses, markets, churches and
schools. Friendly people and extraordinary scenery
give Playa Carrillo its unique and majestic character.

This secluded destination is set in a small
bay about 5 miles southeast of Samara.
The beach ends at Punta Del Indio (The
Cape of the Indian), named that way
because when it's seen from the opposite
side of the bay the cape resembles some-
one lying face up. The waters that lap this
beach are crystal clear, perfect to snorkel
around the coral reef or just relaxing and
enjoying the water. The town bases part
of its economy on fishing, and some days
you can buy fish or lobster from fishermen
when they set foot on shore after a day
at sea.
Playa Samara

Playa Samara is a clear sand beach
that stretches over six miles. The
long beach makes it great a leisurely
stroll along the shore and safe to swim
due to the reef that borders the coast.
This charming beach features a wide
choice of hotels, restaurants, bars,
and discos. Many famous Costa Ricans
including ex-presidents have homes at
Playa Samara.
Samara beach is never boring, especially in these magical surroundings. It also has
excellent fishing and snorkeling and a very popular hobby is dolphin watching. This
mammal migrates along the coast and gets very close to the shore. Other activities
are horseback riding, diving, boat tours, and surfing. You can find an extensive
selection of restaurants and cafes for all different tastes. Some of the hotels have
dance stages where you can enjoy a nice evening getting with the groove of Latin
Salsa and Merengue music with some native Costa Ricans, and thus participate in
a rich cultural exchange.
Camaronal

Playa Camaronal is a two mile long beach that
extends from the mouth of the Oro River in the
west, to the cliffs of Point Camaronal to the
southeast. It is of grayish sand and has mild
to strong waves and is one of the best local
surf spots. The view from the large beach
includes hills of volcanic origin covered with
lush vegetation composed of madero negro,
gumbo-limbo, wild plum, bastard cedar, stinking
toe, spiny cedar, yellow cortez, gonzalo alves,
red berry, terciopelo, mahogany, espave, canelo,
balsa wood and white cotton.

Besides the beach, which is used by the
leatherback and Pacific Ridley turtles to
lay their eggs mainly during the green
season, other points of interest are the
mouth of the River Ora and Vuelta del
Sur Beach, which is on the other side of
the mouth of the Ora and accessible at
low tide. A large number of crabs, shore
limpets, nerites, snails, flatworms,
chitons, and other marine creatures can
be seen there.
